What I do and who is it for?
I work with schools, language departments, and individual teachers who want to move beyond textbook-driven lessons and build classrooms where students are genuinely motivated to communicate. Training is delivered on-site or remotely, and every session is tailored to your context, not a fixed template.
Topics include: motivational strategies in the languages classroom, student and teacher motivation, grounded in Self-Determination Theory, Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) and co-created narratives and stories, Comprehensible Input (CI) strategies, Active learning strategies, Assessment for Learning in the language classroom, and many other strategies and areas.
why work with me?
I am a teacher and a researcher. I am in the classroom every day, teaching kids aged 11-18 Spanish and English but I’m also a research-geek and ensure all of my practice is from a strong evidence-base.
Over 18 years I’ve designed and delivered language courses across France, Ireland, Spain, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Canada. My doctoral research focused on the motivational impact of storytelling in language teaching, and I bring that same evidence-informed approach into every training session. I also host The Motivated Classroom podcast, with over 140 episodes and 500,000+ downloads across 100+ countries. I’ve worked with schools, teachers, districts and whole trusts in over 15 different countries on raising motivation in the language classroom.

The University of Oxford, UK
- Bespoke session on motivation, engagement and language acquisition with the MFL trainee teachers online.
- Focus was on spontaneous speaking, reading and how to increase intrinsic motivation in the language acquisition classroom.
Crofton House School, Canada
- Four x one-hour workshops online focusing on motivation, engagement and teaching through storytelling.
- Included two sessions of instructional coaching where teachers sent me 10-min videos of themselves teaching and we looked at this together using an instructional coaching lens.
